Fatty Legs - Residential Schools in Your Class

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The history of Residential Schools in Canada was ignored for a long time. Now there is a lot of information available to us but it can be difficult to pick and choose where to start as well as to find appropriate material to share with our students. Fatty Legs is an incredible book about a Residential School survivor and it is a wonderful way to introduce your students to the topic of Canadian Residential Schools. Through the brilliant word choice and beautiful illustrations you follow 8 year old Margaret Pokiak as she pleads with her father to let her attend the school, her time at the school as well as how difficult it could be to return home and feel like an outsider. Find out more about how to use Fatty Legs in your class. Explore the imagery and get a novel study which was prepared for the book. In addition we will look at other books appropriate to use in the exploration of Residential School for students grade 4 and up.
