Rabih El-Masri
Almadina Language Charter Academy ELL Coordinator
Calgary, Alberta
I arrived in Canada from Lebanon, during my teenage years, with a high school diploma. While in Canada, my journey for mastering the language was fairly challenging; however, through perseverance, I successfully graduated three degrees: BA, B.Ed., and M.Ed. Thus, my teaching profession has always been associated with the teaching of ELLs. Subsequently, to expand my learning and teaching horizon, I did not limit myself to the classroom. In fact, I went beyond the boundaries of my school's jurisdiction and have participated in numerous Alberta Education workshops associated with all the elements associated with the writing of the P.A.Ts. for grade 9 Social Studies, and in marking grade 9 L.A. P.A.Ts. In addition, I expanded my sphere of activities to include sharing my acquired knowledge and experience in strategies of curriculum delivery, with many teachers across the province, through presenting at various A.T.A. provincial conventions and seminars and charter schools' conferences. Further, I have been involved with the A.T.A. ESLC for a few years and currently I hold the position of the ESLC conference director. Moreover, at my school, I held the two positions of International Languages director and ELL director.
